Takumi Fujiwara is a high school student who looks more like he should go back to sleep rather than drive a car. He works part-time as a gas station attendant with his friend Itsuki, who really wants to buy a cheap basic car like an Eight-Six so he can do street racing down the nearby Mt. Akina. One night, their co-worker Iketani takes the two guys to Mt. Akina to experience some street racing, when a visiting racing team, the Akagi Red Suns, arrive and offer a friendly challenge.

A car is said to be drifting when the rear slip angle is greater than the front slip angle, and the front wheels are pointing in the opposite direction to the turn (e.g. car is turning left, wheels are pointed right), and the driver is controlling these factors.
